Staff note delay

Using a mix of midi and digital sounds - I experience often a small difference in 'note sound attack'- Example is: Midi staves using Garritan Orchestra - sounds ca. 100 milisec's later than: Digital sounds in percussion and Virtual Singer voices that seem to have no note delay. Is there a way to define a general note delay per staff, so both types mentioned sounds at exact same time? Best regards Ole Malmgren

What you could try is this : 1- select the whole staff 2- Edit>Actions>Change note delay. The only trouble is that you need X/1000 of a second while HA sets the delay in 1/256 of a quarter note, but I bet this can be managed with a pocket calculator (take care of the general tempo ! )

Hallo olemalm, in HA's main configuration menu is a 'hardware configuration' menu. This includes sliders to adjust timing of sound for different outputs. If you are using an output for Garritan ( or similar) it should appear here in one the numbered midi output ports. You move the slider for that port to alter the advance of the sound. see attachment. For actually synchronizing the sounds, I use two staves with clear short sounds set on them. ( e.g. both high piano notes) One staff is set to HA digital sound. The other staff is set to have the alternate output ( eg garritan) I find it can take a little time, but one can move the slider to an estimated time difference and play the staves. You have to move the slider and judge by ear when the two notes start at exactly the same time. ( I write down the timing numbers as I go ... I tend to forget! ..and I find my ear deceptive at what is exact synchronization.) The exact timing figures needed can be affected by the delay of HA digital sound which is set at the bottom of the separate 'digital configuration' menu. ( BTW, there is a script which sets midi timing but it appears to be for input related to HA digital, and in my case anyway, did not help. You could try it perhaps.) Hope that is of use. muddle.

After testing this case, I found this combination fine - i.e. both midi- and digital staffs have a good timing: Hardware configuration midi output delays are 0 ms (was already so) Digital output configuration Digital output buffer size was 500 ms. Changes up/down made NO difference - so kept the 500 ms ... Number fo buffers & Digital music offset Was (default to buffer numbers: 3) = 330 ms. Here a change made a good result: I needed in this case a buffer number of 8, which automatically changed Digital music offset to 420 ms. I forced the 420 ms to 0 ms (kept buffers of and music played perfect. Digital sounds was in this case 8 vocal parts (Virtual Singer) together with midi orchestra. And again thanks for showing me in the direction of the Output configurations Best regards Ole Malmgren
