In the attached bass staff, all notes that I insert are placed stem-up and have to be manually corrected. I cannot see why it is not in auto mode.

Es muy extraño. En mi casa, con su mismo archivo, va todo bién. Supongo que le debe de estar pasando con todos los archivos. Verifique que tiene activada correctamente la configuración de la dirección de las plicas. (Vea imagen)

@Tony : When you have a lot of such notes to be corrected, select them all and do Edit>Appearance>General and select the stem direction (auto is perfect).

Yes, this is what I do. But this has to be done each time any new notes are added. If it does not happen for Oliveira, then it must be in my configuration, not the file.

| True ! It's located in Windows>Note display tools, the last small button on the first row. It toggles from note stems up/down/auto(?)

In ten years I have never used that window! I have always assumed that it was the same as the Head Shape section of Note Options (double-click on a note) Hence my surprise to see these Help windows attached to "Head Shape" Thanks to both

Another way the stem direction might be fixed

Stem direction can also be fixed for a particular staff by: Staves > Display options > {select} > Staff lines > Force stem direction: but the same function in Windows > Note display tools will take priority. La direction des tiges peut également être fixée pour une portée particulière par : Portées > Aspect graphique > {Choissisez} > Lignes & barres > Forcer sens de tige: Mais la même fonction dans Fenêtres > Outil Aspect note sera prioritaire.

And for the sake of completeness, you can also select a bunch of notes, right-click, and select Stems auto from the popup menu (this sometimes does not work on the first attempt, but generally does on the second). The same menu can also be used to set stems up or down. When notes are selected individually, the popup menu gives the choices Invert stem direction and Automatic stem direction.
