I have tried to open a piece of music on MUSL but get a message stating 'This plugin is not supported' I recall that the Melody Maker plugin had been discontinued and seem to think I need a Myrweb plugin. If true, where do I download it from? I have updated HA to 9.8.0f and run Windows 8 and Chrome

If the author had allowed this, you will see a "download" button in the MyrWeb title. Best regards

Thankyou Didier. I presume I need to ask him through a PM for this permission?

No, not really - unless you can persuade him to send you a private copy! If you load one of your own files and look under File > Protect you will see the possible attributes that an author can protect/allow. As Didier says, if the author has not protected loading, you will see a download symbol in the header. If you can click on this and see a title which you can further click on, you can get HA to load the score but may encounter further restrictions (changing/saving) in the form of a blue padlock.

But why would someone put a piece of music on the MUSL site unless he intended to share it. I presumed that he had placed it there when the protocol was to use the Myriad plugin and not changed it when that was superseded by Myrweb?

Sounds of MUSL

A major reason is probably vanity, hoping you will think: "Wow, what a fantastic composer!" The music is always playable via the web (by anyone) in which case the uninitiated might think, "Gosh! I think I will buy Harmony Assistant" Also, you would hear any Gold or HQ Sounds being used and think, "Gosh! My sounds are rubbish - I must upgrade to those." (Note therefore that if you were able to download it, you may not be able to reproduce the original sounds.) An author might protect against saving/printing/exporting if he might want to exploit his own work elsewhere. He might protect against editing to prevent his artistic work being compromised, or if he feels that all his hard work in setting-up the page and shaping the effects etc, might be ripped off.

If you want to preserve your copyright to a piece, you need to protect it from indiscriminate duplication and modification. I can conceive of circumstances in which one might wish to put a copy up that people can hear it but can't download it to fiddle with. Of course, as with embarassing images that you don't want to appear forever all over the Web, it is probably best not to make it available in the first place!

There are several pieces of music on the site which I can listen to with no problems. However there are equally as many that I cannot play and get the plug-in error message. I am not trying to download the song, just listen to it. If we are barred from listening to it, I do not see any reason for it to be there. I am of the belief that the owner uploaded it before MyrWeb was available and is encoded in some way with that information. Is that a possibility? This is the embedded code behind the error message <embed src="Files/F24.myr" filename="Ashokan Farewell.myr" width="560" height="840" next="off" lang="" color_theme="" type="application/x-myriad-music" pluginspage="http://www.myriad-online.com/cgi-bin/mmplug.pl">

| Es que la causa es tan sencilla como esa: El usuario NO ha convertido las partituras de su espacio en el nuevo formato .myrweb. El Plugin Myriad Music ya no funciona. Por eso sale el mensaje.
