 1   General / Melody Assistant / Harmony Assistant / Can't find folder "GMDigit/"  on: Oct 4th, 2022, 6:03pm

Receitly, on a newly formatted APFS case-sensitive partition,
I Installed macOS 12.6 (21G115) and used Migration Assistant
to migrate fron my Big Sur startup volume.  Then
I installed melody_assistant_796c.dmg and melodyplayer_666c.dmg

How am I supposed to launch Assistant ane Player?  I recall a
Myriad Manager, and I find one each deep within Assistant ane
Player.  When I click on either, nothing happens.  When I click
on Melody Assistant.app, I get an endlessly repeating alert:
The Program has encountered an error
Can't find folder "GMDigit/", please check
the application has all access rights.
Player behaves similarly, but if I click Continut several times
it finally launches.

In https://www.myriad-online.com/en/docs/faq/faqsoundbase.htm I find:
... This file is copied then unpacked in the "GMDigit" folder
   of your preferences

Where should I find "your preferences?"  In Mac language, I'd expect
"/Users/paulgilm/Preferences", where "paulgilm" is my User ID.

How can I configure Assistant and Player so that my option I can
open a general MIDI file I downloaded from the Internet with either
Melody Assistant or Melody Player?

Thanks,
Paul

I meant that it was easy for me to fix.
That it involved more than that by yourself and the developers is of course appreciated.

Nuances = vélocités.

6   General / Other subjects / Principles for editing ancient scores  on: Sep 30th, 2022, 10:33pm

I am working on producing HA scores of Gibbons' First Set of Madrigals and Motets.  I have to say that this has been an interesting exercise.  Gibbons wrote these pieces in parts, using black notes.  (The printed edition I am working from was printed in 1612.)  Figuring out the parts and integrating them into a single score is a lot like trying to work a crossword puzzle.

Figuring out the notes, rests, and their durations has not been difficult, and there are on-line resources that answered a couple of questions I had about that.  There are, however, a couple of spots where I wish to indicate emendations I have decided to make, and I am not quite sure how they should be indicated in the score.  I'd like to get it right, because I am considering sharing the files on IMSLP.

Some of my emendations are corrections of obvious errors, that I don't feel right about correcting "silently," and then there are a couple of spots where I feel the piece in question would be more euphonious if I applied or omitted an accidental to a certain note.  The question is what liberties an editor can legitimately take, and what the principles are by which I should be guided.  And also, how such emendations are customarily indicated in the score.

Can anyone recommend an on-line reference?  My searches have not come up with anything useful.  Or failing a link, a book that doesn't cost too much?  (I can cope with French or English, and could even make my way through a text in Spanish, if necessary.)

  • Edition/modifier
  • Aspect tuplet
  • Ne pas afficher le tuplet
